Working families across Wisconsin's 3rd District are paying thousands more for health insurance in 2026, because Congressman Derrick Van Orden refused to support an extension of health care tax credits. While premiums skyrocket for his constituents, Van Orden has prioritized permanent tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations over affordable health care for working families.

Health insurance premiums have spiked dramatically after Van Orden let health care tax credits expire: More than 30,000 families in Van Orden's district relied on health care tax credits to afford insurance. When those credits expired at the end of 2025, premiums jumped by thousands of dollars per year. Marty, a constituent from Sparta, received notice that her premiums for a basic plan would increase by $12,000 per year.
Van Orden also voted for the largest Medicaid cut in history, taking care away from millions of Americans.Earlier this year Van Orden voted for the Republican Tax Law, which includes "significant cuts to Medicaid, food benefits, and other programs" and rips healthcare away from 10 million Americans.
Too many Wisconsin families are struggling to afford basic health insurance, forcing impossible choices between coverage and other necessities – it doesn't have to be this way. It's time for Derrick Van Orden to vote to restore our health care tax credits and fight for working families instead.
