Social Security Roundtable Discussion: Kenosha

As Social Security marks 84 years since the first check was printed, we’re meeting with Kenosha community leaders, seniors, For Our Future Wisconsin and Citizen Action Wisconsin for a roundtable discussion on the importance of protecting benefits for future generations.

The roundtable coincides with the 84th anniversary this week of the first Social Security check being printed, and continued threats to Social Security benefits in Congress. Earlier this year the House Budget Committee advanced H.R. 5779, the Fiscal Commission Act of 2023. If established, it would create an expedited process for potential cuts to federal programs, including Social Security and Medicare. AARP and more than 100 organizations have publicly opposed creating a fiscal commission, citing the potential for cuts to Social Security benefits.

Eau Claire community leaders celebrate 58th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

Eau Claire community leaders and grassroots activists will join Opportunity Wisconsin, For Our Future WI, and Citizen Action Wisconsin to celebrate the 58th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid becoming law, a milestone reached earlier this week.

Eau Claire residents will deliver brief remarks about the importance of protecting and strengthening these programs and highlight current attempts to roll back provisions that have made prescription drugs more affordable for Medicare beneficiaries.

Under the Inflation Reduction Act, seniors on Medicare are already benefiting from a cap on insulin prices, a program that forces drug companies to pay rebates when they raise prescription prices higher than the rate of inflation, and Medicare will soon have the ability to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices on many life-saving drugs.

Small Business Town Hall with Senator Tammy Baldwin

We are so close to delivering historic progress for the American People and Main Street. It is time to invest in our care infrastructure. Small businesses are demanding these programs, like paid leave and child care, that will help ease the burden of high costs on working families and support entrepreneurs. It's past time to level the playing field, and make sure the ultra wealthy and large corporations pay their fair share to make it happen. An investment in our overall care economy is an investment in small businesses, and our local community.

Join Main Street Alliance, Opportunity Wisconsin, Family Friendly Wisconsin and Senator Tammy Baldwin for a very special Small Biz 'Build Back Better' town hall. Hear directly from Sen. Baldwin and from local, Main Street Businesses throughout Wisconsin on why we need to get this done NOW.
