Social Security Roundtable Discussion: La Crosse

As Social Security marks 84 years since the first check was printed, we’re meeting with La Crosse community leaders, seniors, For Our Future Wisconsin and Citizen Action Wisconsin for a roundtable discussion on the importance of protecting benefits for future generations.

The roundtable coincides with the 84th anniversary this week of the first Social Security check being printed, and continued threats to Social Security benefits in Congress. Earlier this year the House Budget Committee advanced H.R. 5779, the Fiscal Commission Act of 2023. If established, it would create an expedited process for potential cuts to federal programs, including Social Security and Medicare. AARP and more than 100 organizations have publicly opposed creating a fiscal commission, citing the potential for cuts to Social Security benefits.
